What we actually do

Small-business software,
built like it matters.

We're not an enterprise consultancy. We're a small studio helping small businesses ship the tools they've been trying to build for years.

Practical strategy

We start with what your business actually needs to run better. Not a 40-page roadmap — a working plan you can afford and understand.

Design & engineering

One consultant, front to back. Web and iOS, designed and built together. Weekly working demos — the real product, not slides.

AI where it saves you time

Menu-from-a-photo, auto-categorized transactions, drafted customer replies. AI on the parts of your workflow that eat your day — nowhere else.

How we work

Humans decide. AI accelerates.

You're hiring judgment — not a black box. I say clearly what I own and where AI helps me move faster.

Human-led

Judgment, design, and the hard calls.

I own the decisions that shape your brand, your customer experience, and how your software works day to day. AI doesn't set your pricing, pick your look, or decide what to build.

  • Discovery calls and problem framing
  • Website design and brand experience
  • Product direction and system choices
  • User flows and interaction design
  • Copy, positioning, and voice
  • Review, security checks, and ship approval
AI-accelerated

Speed on the repeatable work.

I use AI the way a good editor uses a spellchecker — always reviewed, never trusted blind. That is how a solo consultant ships in weeks what used to take a big shop months, at a fraction of the cost.

  • First drafts of screens, flows, and copy
  • Connecting your tools and data sources
  • Docs, release notes, and support content
  • Finding bugs and cleaning up code
  • Every AI draft reviewed by me before it ships
Shipping in 2026

Three products. One consultant.
Real ship dates.

I build my own products alongside client work — for small operators, just like the ones I work with. It keeps me honest, and it proves the method before I sell it.

Engagement model

Short kickoff. Tight build.
Priced for a small business.

Three phases. Fixed fee per phase. Walk away between any two — no long-term contracts, no hostage-taking.

Phase 01

Blueprint

One workshop, two working sessions. You leave with a concrete build plan and a signed price for the actual work — a real deliverable, not a proposal.

5 business days · $4,500
Phase 02

Build

Weekly working demos, not status updates. You use the product while I build it. First real feature in week two.

4–10 weeks · fixed fee
Phase 03

Operate

Optional monthly retainer for iteration and monitoring. Or hand off to a freelancer or in-house developer — repo, docs, and a two-hour walkthrough are yours either way.

As a small business, I couldn't afford a six-figure quote or a nine-month timeline. Red Maya was the only one who actually listened before pitching. They told us we didn't need half the features the bigger shops were charging us for — then they shipped in nine weeks for a price I could stomach.

Who's behind the studio

20 years of shipping software — long before the AI part.

Red Maya is run by an operator who's lived every seat on a software team — enterprise, mid-market, and scrappy small-business builds. AI-accelerated work doesn't cut corners on the parts most studios forget: the quality gate, the timeline, the honest stakeholder conversation.

You get a partner who's shipped enterprise releases and one-person MVPs — and knows which one fits your small business.

Software QA
Test strategy, automation, release gating. We know what "done" looks like — and refuse to ship less.
IT project management
Scope, budget, timeline. Cross-team dependencies. The unglamorous work that keeps a build on schedule.
Product management
Roadmap to release notes. We translate "what the business needs" into "what the software actually does."
Consulting
Enterprise, mid-market, and small business. Hospitality, fintech, healthcare, gov. The bad advice bigger firms give small operators is exactly what we don't do.
Common questions

Everything a first call would cover.

Is this "AI-generated code" I'm buying?

No. AI drafts and accelerates — humans decide, design, and ship. Every line of AI-drafted code is reviewed by a senior engineer before it's merged. If you want a black box that generates untested code, we're not it.

Are we too small to work with you?

Almost certainly not. Most of our clients are one- to twenty-person operations. If the project fits inside a weekend of work, we'll say so and point you at a good freelancer. Anything bigger is our sweet spot.

How is this different from an "AI automation agency"?

Most automation agencies wire no-code tools inside their own accounts and rent them back to you monthly. We build real software that you own — code, infrastructure, and data — so your business isn't held hostage to our subscription.

Do you take equity or offer performance-based pricing?

No. Fixed fees only. Equity distorts recommendations. Performance pricing pushes toward features that goose short-term metrics. Neither serves you.

What's the minimum engagement?

The $4,500 Blueprint — priced so a small business can afford to find out whether it's worth building at all. If it isn't, you keep the plan.

Can you work alongside our freelancer or existing developer?

Yes — roughly half our work is this. We deliver into your repo, follow your review process, match your stack. Ego is not a deliverable.

What if the "AI part" of my project turns out not to need AI?

We'll say so and build the boring version. About 30% of "AI projects" we scope end up as normal software with one small model call somewhere. That's a good outcome.
